AQD Newsletter 11
September/October 2005

The following newsletter outlines the news from the Superstructure Group AQD team, as at the end of October 2005.

New AQD Clients – We are 40 this month!
We have had a busy couple of months and have three new clients joining the AQD family this month. Welcome to Westjet, Etihad Airways and DHL Aviation who now take our total number of clients to 40.

Superstructure Group News – What’s in a name?
You have probably already noticed that we have a new name; as from 1st October 2005 we are now Superstructure Group Ltd and have a spanking new web site and brand overhaul. From an AQD perspective the brand change is subtle and in marketing speak “reflects our long established and trusted reputation in the market”. The new website is phase 1 only and we plan to have more support capability for our clients in phase 2 which should be with us by the end of the year; in the meantime, we would be delighted to hear any suggestions you may have for the website. The new website address is http://www.superstructuregroup.com/ but the old address will redirect to this new site automatically.

Product News
As part of the normal upgrade cycle a new service pack for the international version of AQD, and its associated products, is currently underway. This release will include changes to; AQD, Workbench, Web Interface and Offline Capture systems. An outline of the major changes that are being made are as follows:

AQD & Workbench

  • Correction to the occurrence report print previewing, so that the correct print preview format is used when there is both an AQD and Web Form for a single Occurrence Type.

  • The output path for the Finding Response Request MS Word documents has been changed from the Reports directory in the AQD Customisation to the AQDTemp folder on the local C: drive. This avoids cluttering the Reports folder with unnecessary temporary files.

  • Correction to the display of any Standard columns in the check list print preview form the Check List Enquiry.

Web Interface

  • Improvement to the website user interface that provides greater control over the links provided, and enables the display of customised text in the Windows Explorer
    status bar.

  • Upgrade to the server components to use the latest version of the zlib encryption and compression algorithm.

Offline Capture

  • Aligned the occurrence report selection options with the options displayed in the Web Interface.

  • Incorporation of a new exit button on the main dialog box to simplify use.

The development work for these service packs has been completed, and all that remains is for the systems and acceptance testing be completed. Release of the upgrades is expected in early November. If you wish to obtain a copy of any of these new releases, please contact our support team using the aqd support address mailto:aqd_support@superstructuregroup.comand they will arrange for the upgrade to be sent to you.

AQD Tips ’n’ Tricks

Generating a Report of Actions showing Occurrences

If you require a report that shows actions with their associated occurrence report, the best report to use is the Occurrence Status Report which can be run from the Occurrence/Investigation Search & Output tool (note; this is the same as the “Graphs and Monthly Reports” options on the AQD Navigator). If the Occurrence Status Report is run with the “Include Investigation Findings & Actions” and “Include Occurrence Description” options turned on, this report will show the associated occurrence description, investigation details and any Finding and Actions that were raised as a result of the occurrence report.

Scored Check List

When a check list is scored in AQD, a copy of the checklist layout is taken at the time the scores are entered against which all the comments and scores are recorded. Therefore, as this is a copy, if any changes are subsequently made to the original check list design (e.g. new rows added) these changes will not appear on the scored check list. If these design changes need to be reflected on the scored check list, the scored check list against the audit will need to be removed and re-linked to that audit.

Excel Graph Output

Don’t forget that whenever you use AQD to create a graph using MS Excel, you can always edit the resulting graph and underlying datasheet in Excel. This approach can be used to remove any unwanted or extraneous data form the graph when it may not be possible to eliminate the data by using the criteria options provided on the analysis tools in AQD.
