The SiD offering from Superstructure has five distinct features that set it
aside from the rest of the market:
Intelligence led investigation
Sophisticated criminal activity can be matched only by understanding the full
model of an organised criminal process. Although that understanding takes a lot
of hard grind investigative effort, the end result allows an attack on the
pivotal points of the process. The result is a prosecution that maximizes the
value for the investigation investment.
SiD provides full investigation support and the capture of related intelligence
to focus investigative effort on the most cost-effective targets in terms of
enforcement resource. SiD provides the information to take action and
significantly reduces the prosecution delivery phase. (Prosecution Officers
have quoted a 200% reduction in the prosecution delivery phase of an
investigation.)
Security
SiD is certified to Security Level "In Confidence" (Security Level 5) and has
been used in Top Secret operations by Police and Military.
SiD's n-tier web architecture allows the system to securely send and receive
information over the web. Part of this capability is the SiD Smart Forms, which
can be remotely deployed to allow other agencies to submit information in a
fully secure manner.
Security using a base level of HTTPS encryption has certification to FIPS140
level. A further two levels of authentication could be provided by:
 |
IP address filtering at the firewall to ensure traffic is only
received from the authorised agencies (internally implemented within the
organisation's network infrastructure) |
 |
A windows authentication mechanism (such as RSA SecuID) to ensure that
authentication is strengthened from pure password protection |
SiD also provides a full audit trail of action taken on any information within
the system.
Collaboration
A key intelligence collection capability is to inwardly and outwardly share
intelligence with other agencies underpinned by appropriate inter-agency
Memorandum Of Understanding (MOU). At the operational level these need to be
protected with a security framework which maintains the integrity of the MOU
and ensures other generic considerations (such as privacy legislation) are
protected.
Such exchange must be selectively manageable in terms of content. The transfer
of information must be totally flexible, mapping to the intelligence model at
either end of the transfer - both in terms of detailed profiles and
associations. Such intelligence sharing should be available at all levels of
the intelligence collection model.
SiD provides a secure XML standard data sharing mechanism that will allow
mapping of any data structure for inward and outward data exchange. The
mechanism for inter-agency intelligence sharing is based on XML intelligence
exchange which is compatible with the US Attorney General's Regional
Information Sharing System (RISS - Matrix project). This protocol provides the
core structure for a more open ended and extensible information exchange
internally and externally with a SiD database.
Flexibility
The key to SiD is the flexibility to handle intelligence from such diverse
fields as taxation fraud, money laundering, military intelligence, illegal drug
supply, wildlife poaching, anti-terrorist intelligence, homicide or fisheries
fraud.
SiD provides a highly flexible framework of information content and
inter-operability. Dynamic meta-data structures allow definition of diverse and
locally specific structures that can be matched perfectly to the domain The
benefit of this structure is the adaptability to changing market requirements
without a change to the core product, and with low cost of deployment on an
operation by operation basis.
In terms of the specific information to be captured, the SiD Smart Forms
capability provides open-ended data extension via the meta-data administration
capability. This allows any information content to be recorded (or extended) at
any time. To the user the forms look as though they are targeted to their
domain.
SiD provides seamless integration with key support tools including the i2
Analyst Notebook visual analysis tool.
Scalability
Under a n-tier architecture with scalable application servers SiD is able to
provide as much bandwidth as needed. Application Servers operate independently
so you can duplicate as many times as is necessary to scale to meet the
requirements. For example in an emergency situation where high volumes of
information need to be input into the system to provide an up to date picture
as quickly as possible. Part of this capability is the SiD Smart Forms, which
can be remotely deployed to allow other agencies to submit information in a
fully secure manner.
