GOL is the second largest airline in Brazil and one of the fastest-growing
airlines in Latin America. Technology is core to GOL’s business strategy and
the airline wanted to implement the best software available to support their
rapid growth. “With the integration of GOL and Varig into a single airline
company the use of a common safety reporting system is important to us”, said
Captain Sergio Quito, Quality Assurance Manager for GOL. “AQD has helped
simplify the integration of the two companies.”
“The implementation project for AQD was established in May 2008 with the
electronic delivery of the AQD software download, training schedule, manuals
and exercises. We ran the automated installation process to establish the AQD
environment and the training system. Assistance was provided by the AQD team to
confirm we had correctly setup the database on the server and the connections
to the database were working.
A 5 day onsite training course was conducted by the AQD team in July 2008 with
15 attendees from the Safety, Quality Assurance and Security departments. This
provided an understanding of AQD to the key personnel to ensure a smooth
implementation process. Two days of the training focussed on super users and
database administration during which processes were explained and the training
course content was adapted to meet our specific requirements.
AQD was delivered with a standard default configuration. Onsite support was
provided by the AQD team to assist us with customising the database to suit our
operational needs. This included building our Organisation structure, setting
up security groups and menu permissions, enabling all the security settings
(Menu, Department & Occurrence Type) and finally designing occurrence
forms.
The implementation project went very well and we are pleased with the benefit we
are getting from AQD. This is the first safety and quality management system we
have invested in and think that AQD is a comprehensive tool that will enable us
to effectively manage our safety and quality data in a consistent way. We are
particularly impressed with the statistics and analysis function of the
database and believe that this will enhance the purpose and focus of our Safety
Committees attended by all post holders.
We thought the training was excellent and very well structured. Training was
adapted to suit our needs and we particularly liked the ‘hands on’ approach
both with the exercises and the administration set up. We currently have up to
100 users who have access to AQD. We are working closely with other Brazilian
airlines to ensure a standardised approach to Safety & Quality.”
